UX Researcher

Context

BrickThink replaces a tactile, in-person methodology with a 2D screen-based one. The core research problem: does the remote format preserve methodology fidelity, and does it close — not widen — the accessibility gap that physical LSP has for visually impaired and motor-impaired participants. WCAG 2.2 AA is a hard requirement targeted from launch, so accessibility research is central, not peripheral.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate methodology fidelity across the five stages: skill building, individual model, shared model, system model, guiding principles. Identify where the digital flow breaks the LSP intent.

• Run accessibility research with disabled participants from the start — keyboard-only navigation, screen-reader brick announcements (name, position, owner), colourblind pattern overlays, reduced-motion needs.

• Test the facilitator flow-control surface: stage timer state machine, pre-session checklist, roster and spotlight, breakout rooms, transitive room membership comprehension.

• Study participant comprehension of room composition (partition vs compose), the "bring in my previous model" import, brick reactions, and threaded comments.

• Investigate onboarding effectiveness: welcome modal, facilitator checklist, action spotlights, session tour, replay.

• Surface findings against the live roadmap to inform Phase 2 capture and Phase 3 AI-assist design before they are built.

• Produce evidence the engineering team can act on — prioritised, reproducible, tied to specific flows.

Requirements

• Mixed-methods UX research experience: moderated usability testing, contextual inquiry, accessibility evaluation.

• Hands-on competence with assistive technology (screen readers, keyboard-only flows) and WCAG 2.2 AA criteria.

• Experience researching real-time collaborative or canvas-based interfaces.

• Ability to recruit and work respectfully with disabled participants.

• Comfort feeding findings directly into a small engineering team without a heavy research-ops layer.

Disqualifiers

• Treats accessibility as a checklist appended after design.

• Survey-only practice with no qualitative depth.

• No experience with collaborative or facilitation tooling.
